Oakland McDonald's Workers, Management File Complaint

Workers at an Oakland McDonald's have filed a complaint with the Alameda County Public Health Department, claiming that six workers have tested positive for COVID-19 and spread the illness to their family members.

According to the complaint, managers and employees have been coming to work sick with clear COVID-19 symptoms and without extra precautions since at least May 14.

The owner and operator of the McDonald's in question has denied many of the claims in a statement.

This McDonald's location is at 4514 Telegraph Ave. in Oakland, according to Eater SF.

It previously made headlines for allegedly telling employees to make masks out of coffee filters and dog diapers.

Employees walked out of a second McDonald's location 6300 E. 14th St. in Oakland last month, alleging the fast food chain’s management wasn’t doing enough to protect them from the coronavirus outbreak. They later filed a complaint with the Alameda County Health Department, saying McDonald’s "failed to close and disinfect the store and did not inform workers that a colleague was directly exposed to someone positive with COVID-19."

That complaint also cited a lack of available PPE for workers interacting with customers.
