After several diretors have come and gone, it looks as though Bad Boys III is taking shape. Lead actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence took to Instagram to confirm work on the buddy cop film franchise after 15 years.

On Thursday, Smith and Lawrence appeared on video in what looks like a beach setting, possibly Miami and announced "It's official! It's official baby! 'Bad Boys 3' is happening!" His post read "It’s been a LOOOONG time Coming. But now it’s Here! @BadBoys For Life -- We back!! @martinlawrence"

The news comes after Sony Pictures said they were close to green lighting a sequel over a month ago.

Bad Boys for Life will bring back Smith and Lawrence's characters Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, however no story details have been released as of yet. The movie studio have also enlisted Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, best known for their work on episodes of Snowfall on FX to direct. Screenwriter Chris Bremner (The Wedding Ringer) will pen the storyline.

Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch told Variety if they were to make another film after 15 years, "it’s got to be next-level great," A tall order as the first two action-packed movies were directed by Michael Bay of Armageddon and Transformers fame.

The original 1995 Bad Boys also starred Téa Leoni, Joe Pantoliano, Michael Imperioli and Theresa Randle. The second film starred Michael Shannon, Henry Rollins and Gabrielle Union, who is currently filming "L.A.'s Finest," a spin-off television series of her Bad Boys II character Sydney Burnett.

The first film made over $140 million worldwide with 2003's sequel making over $273 million.
