August 8, 2018

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS Radio) - Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry saluted slain teenager Nia Wilson at a Tuesday night showcase game for elite high school basketball players.

Curry took the microphone at midcourt before the tipoff at Kezar Pavilion, telling the audience, “I’m sure everybody is aware of the tragedy, the loss we’ve had in the Bay Area recently." Curry said he was dedicating the game to the Wilson family, with Nia's father Ansar Mohammed and sister Letifah sitting courtside. Letifah was injured in the BART station attack that took her sister Nia's life.

Curry also announced an online fundraising effort for Nia Wilson's family. He asked viewers watching a live stream of the SC30 Select Camp game on Facebook to hit the "donate" button, promising that all donations to the National Basketball Players Association Foundation would be routed to the family.

As of Wednesday morning, the campaign had generated nearly $21,000 in donations and more than 1,000 comments on Facebook. Among them: "God Bless you Stephen Curry and your family. This is such a great thing you’re doing."
