Rapper DMX To Be Released From Prison

January 24, 2019

In March 2018, Hip Hop artist DMX was sentenced to serve one year behind bars for tax evasion. This Friday, Earl Simmons, DMX' real name, is scheduled to be set free, according to Vulture.

The "Party Up" rapper's release was originally set for Sunday from Gilmer Federal Correctional Institution in West Virginia but has been moved ahead to Friday at 9:00 am. DMX' lawyer said the rapper is "very happy" to come home.

"He's never been hotter than now," Murray Richman, DMX's attorney said. "People have been seeking him out all over. He’s terrific; he’s been terrific."

In November 2017, Simmons pleaded guilty to one count of tax fraud "for evading the payment of income taxes in the period from 2010 through 2016," mostly by living off cash, Vulture reports.

After his release, DMX, 48, will be under supervised release for the next 3 years.
