On Tuesday, Netfix announced they and the family of the late Selena Quintanilla will be developing a new scripted series based on the life and death of the gunned down Tejano icon, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Netflix has given the greenlight for a straight-to-series order for Selena: The Series, a coming of age story.

The series will be written by Moisés Zamora, best known for Star and American Crime and executive produced by Campanario Entertainment President Jaime Davila, Rico Martinez, Simran A. Singh, Selena's father Abraham Quintanilla and her sister Suzette Quintanilla.

"Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives," Suzette Quintanilla said in a statement. "We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come."
