NBA Great Gary Payton To Visit Skyline High and Make a Donation

September 12, 2018

NBA legend and Oakland native Gary Payton returns to the Bay Area on Thursday to visit his alma mater, Skyline High School, according to officials with the Oakland Unified School District.

The 50 year-old will be joined by officials with the Oakland Athletics to make a charitable donation to the school's baseball team during a special ceremony at the gym.

Payton, also known as "The Glove" due to his impecable defensive skills, began his NBA basketball career as point guard with the Seattle SuperSonics from 1990 to 2003. He then played with Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Boston Celtics. But it is with the Miami Heat Payton won an NBA championship.

He also joined the U.S. Men's Olympic Basketball Teams in 1996 and in 2000, where he took home two gold medals.

Payton's appearance will be at 10:00am.
