October 30, 2018

WALNUT CREEK (KCBS RADIO) - A community rallies to support the family of Hector Garza and his 8-month-old daughter Camilla Rose Garza.

Both father and daughter was struck by a vehicle whose driver was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol. The collision happened some time around 6:30pm as Garza was driving on South Broadway, near Interstate 680 in Walnut Creek. The driver of the car collided head-on into three vehicles including Garza’s. When first responders arrived at the scene, emergency crews pronounced the 45-year-old Garza dead and rushed the child with major injuries to the hospital.

All those involved were taken to the hospital for injuries sustained by the suspect, a 35-year-old Tennessee woman later identified as Jessica Martin. She was taken to John Muir Medical Center for moderate injuries. Later that night, police arrested her for vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Saturday, the family of the Garzas set up a GoFundMe page to help with the medical expenses for young Camilla, in hopes that she would pull through. Sadly, on Tuesday, she died from injuries, according to an updated GoFundMe page.

As of Wednesday morning, $80,000 established goal is close to being met at over $70,000.

Many in the DJ community have reached out to help Hector Garza’s family. A community he was very proud to be a part of and likewise. As a DJ, Garza touched many lives through his music and on the dance floor. Most of all, Garza was a proud father, loving husband, son and brother who put family as top priority.

The two is survived by wife and mother Kirsten.
