Chaka Khan Slams Kanye West's Use of 'Through the Fire'

June 27, 2019

Chaka Khan’s huge 1984 hit “Through The Fire” played a major role in the recovery of Kanye West when he was involved in a car accident in 2002.

But it was revealed in an episode of Bravo's Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the acclaimed R&B singer was not very pleased with the result of the use of her classic song.

Khan revealed to Cohen and co-guest Adam Lambert that, although she was touched by the affection by West, she was not happy about how her vocals were sped up and lyrics were changed to suit his storytelling.

"Then when it came out, I was pissed. It was a little insulting," Khan described. "Not insulting, I thought it was stupid. If I’d known he was gonna do that, I would have said, 'Hell no.'"
