After announcing its long-awaited arrival to the Bay Area, the New York-based fast-food chain Shake Shack has opened its first Bay Area restaurant in Palo Alto over the weekend.

It's located at the Stanford Shopping Center with future plans to expand to Larkspur and San Francisco's Marina District.

This announcement comes on the heels of the closing of midwest favorite Steak 'N Shake's two main Bay Area locations in Daly City and Campbell.

As predicted, lines stretched for blocks during it's initial opening. Some even waited an hour before closing, hoping to get their hands on the popular East Coast burger. Shake Shack does offer something different for West Coast fans. The 'Golden State Double Burger' brings local ingredients like buns baked by Tartine Bakery and they also serve Northern California beer.

Recently, Palo Alto also became home to the Bay Area's first Wahlburger's location, made famous by Wahlberg brothers Donnie and Mark.

Shake Shack now has 202 stores around the world.
