'Boomerang' Reboot Brings Halle Berry and Lena Waithe

September 24, 2018

Teaming up for what is described as a sequel to the 1992 Eddie Murphy comedy Boomerang, Academy Award-winner Halle Berry and Emmy winner Lena Waithe will take on executive producing duties for the hal-hour BET show.

The green-lit series will run for 10-episodes, with showrunner Ben Cory Jones in the driver's seat. Jones worked with Waithe, together on Showtime's The Chi and the Netflix film Step Sisters.

The comedy's premise continues with the son of Jacqueline Boyer, played Robin Givens and Marcus (Murphy) and Angela Graham's (Berry) daughter.

Waithe tells The Hollywood Reporter "This is less of a reboot and more of a continuation of the original story,"

"There’s no point in trying to remake a classic. It can’t be done." Waithe adds. "So, we want to create something fresh that speaks to a new generation. We hope people will come to the show with an open mind and ready to embrace the new world we’ve created!"

"I'm thrilled to team up with Lena on this project as she is without a doubt a leading voice of her generation and a trailblazer in her own right." Berry said. "I’m truly excited to be a part of bringing this iconic and beloved film to the small screen,"
