January 18, 2018

NBC gives the greenlight to develop a 'Bad Boys' spinoff series starring Gabrielle Union.

On Thursday, NBC announced Gabrielle Union will star in a spinoff television series based on the Bad Boys movies lead by Martin Lawrence and Will Smith.

In the yet untitled action series has Union reprising her roll from 2003's Bad Boys II, Syd Burnett, sister to Detective Marcus Burnett (Lawrence), starts a new job as a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department. Burnett will be partnered with Nancy McKenna, a career mom who admires Syd's single life.

Union's last series Being Mary Jane on BET ends in 2018.

The upcoming show is written by Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, better known for their work on the NBC series The Blacklist with James Spader and Megan Boone. Jerry Bruckheimer and Doug Belgrad who produced the Bad Boys films will also take on executive producer duties along with Jonathan Littman (CSI) and KristieAnne Reed (Armageddon).

A third Bad Boys movie was in the works, but was pulled off of Sony's schedule.
