Country's First Cannabis Cafe to Open in LA

July 17, 2019

(KNX) - The West Hollywood Business License Commission on Tuesday night approved a new 'cannabis cafe' that will feature a special filtration system that's not used anywhere else in the US.

It's similar to systems used in casinos.

The cafe would hold a one year permit.

The open-air restaurant, called Lowell Farms, will offer cannabis cuisine and a smoking area. It will be located at  1201 N. La Brea Ave.

A local synagogue, Congregation Kol Ami, is against the project near La Brea and Lexington Avenues fearing that people walking near the cafe would get a contact high. They are situated across the street from the proposed cafe

"We are deeply concerned about this business and this outdoor space and smoke clouds of cannabis that will limit the usage of our outdoor space," said Rabbi Denise L. Eger.

The commission gave the OK for the project Tuesday night.

The cafe will be expected to open in a few months and will be alcohol free.
